B efore the First Visit
We
sincerely trust that you and your child will find the first visit and all
visits to our office comfortable and rewarding. Our goal is to offer
excellence in oral healthcare to all of our patients. Good dental
health can only be accomplished by teamwork between parents, patients and
dental professionals. We are here to serve you and thank you for
entrusting your child's dental care to us. If you have any questions
please feel free to call our office.
Before the
first visit, please discuss the positive aspects of dentistry with your
child. We would like to convey good feelings about dental visits being
apart of growing up. We ask that you allow us to be the source of
information for your child if he or she may be apprehensive about the
dental visit. Words Such as, "hurt", "shot", and "needle" are a few
examples of "no-no's" in our office. We choose other less frightening
words to describe our procedures.
Expect your
child to react well and enjoy the visit to our office and chances are that
he or she will do exactly that.
The
appointment time is reserved specifically for your child. We ask that a
cancellation or change please be made at least 24 hours in advance. You
will need to allow yourself a few extra minutes before the appointment to
fill out the health form, if you do not print and complete it ahead of
time (See First
Visit Forms below).
The First Dental Visit
At the
initial visit, our staff will review the health history form with you.
Then you and your child will be introduced to our dental team and have the
opportunity to see the office before the examination. We invite you to
stay with your child at the first dental visit. At future appointments,
infants and young children may feel more confident when parents are close
by. With older children, doctor-child communication is often enhanced if
parents remain in the reception room. Our purpose is to gain your child's
confidence and overcome any apprehension. Please do not be upset if your
child cries. Children are often afraid of anything new, and crying is the
normal reaction to that fear. Following, the examination the dentist will
discuss his findings with you. At this time a treatment plan will be
designed for your child's specific dental
needs.
